  • AMV Anime Music Video remixing-people take already created cartoons, edit them, and add a music track, thus creating something "new" (L. Reeser)
  • AFFINITY SPACES A physical or virtual space/place where informal learning occurs. Basically, people who share common/shared interests affiliate with others to share or gain knowledge. They communicate via different internet sites or in different places, and with different people, most times people they have never met (E. Unogu).
  • APP - short for "application", usually refers to any sort of software used for specific devices. Apps for mobile devices can serve a variety of functions, including social networking, email, news, video chat, and games. (I. Albers)
  • APPOLICIOUS - A web-based tool that is a search engine for mobile apps. The tool allows the user to select between Apple and Android Apps. (C. Swisher)
  • ACCESS DIVIDE- used to describe a situation where one does not have access to websites they need in order to create, learn or contribute, where there is no help close-by in case a computer or software breaks down, and when the cost of broadband at home is not sustainable for the family (E.   • Bandwidth The amound of data that can pass through a given commucation line. The larger the Bandwidth more amount of data can pass in a given time. (C. Woodard)
  • BOOLEAN LOGICAllows you to combine words and phrases into search statements to retrieve documents from searchable databases such as "Google" . (F. Moore)
  • BLOG A web site that contains a writer’s “news”: opinions, feelings & viewpoints (C.Woodard)

  • CAPTCHA Completely Automated Public Turing Test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart, program that protects websites from spam. (M. Miller)
  • CCMIXTER Website that is a platform for remixing music in the Creative Commons (H. Trefun)
  • CIVIC LITERACY Participating effectively in civic life by knowing how to stay informed and understanding government processes as well as exercising the rights and obligations of citizenship (B. Armbruster)
  • CLOUD- a collection of networked computers that spans across many machines. (K. Robertson)
  • COOKIE a file sent to a web browser by a web server that is used to record one's activities (N. Murphy)
  • C++ is an object-oriented programming (OOP) language that is viewed by many as the best language for creating large-scale applications. (K. Davis)
  • CREATIVE COMMONS A non-profit organization that provides free copyright licenses that let you share and use content for free (L. Reeser)
  • **CROWDSOURCING** People invite a large group of other people on the Internet or elsewhere to put together a project. It is fast and cheap, Wikipedia is an example. (S.Fenton)
  • CONNECTED DIVIDE- refers to the gap between those who are connecting to broader networks, through which they create new waves of learning and build their social capital, and those who are not doing so (E. Unogu).
  • COLLABORATIVE CREATION SYSTEMS- gamers develop their own digital content that has their build up of their favorite digital worlds in order to benefit other gamers (S. Fenton)
  • C2BK- it stands for Cruel 2 Be Kind games, which are games played on sidewalks and parks gathering people together through text or via e-mail, it gets people collaboratively working together and creates social energy, people are killed with kind weapons, like compliments or a smile (S. Fenton)

  • DIGITAL NATIVE people who have grown up with Web 2.0 technology (L. Reeser)
  • DIGITAL PLAYGROUND taking the time for teachers and administrators to use the technologies that students are using both in the classroom and on their own, in order to become more versed and familiar with it themselves. (K. Robertson)

  • EETT(Enhancing Education through Technology) - federal grant program intended to aid schools in the acquisition and implementation of technology equipment to increase student achievement and technological literacy. (C. Swisher)

  • FLIPPED CLASSROOM inverting the traditional lecture and homework. Lecture time is spent on "homework" and "homework" is to watch/learn lessons. (M. Miller)

  • FINDHOW- a research tool/ How-To directory that can be used to find out how to do things. It gives access to trusted and reliable How-To content on the internet (E. Unogu).

  • GAMES: MINI-GAMES vs COMPLEX GAMES mini-games take fewer hours to complete and have no real challenges and usually single players where as complex games takes up to 100 to master and involve multiple players and consist of learning multiple skills to complete difficult levels through teamwork.   • GEEKING OUT is the abiltiy to use technological infrastructures to participate in learning communities and through collaboration produce intense and interest driven learning. (F. Moore)
  • GENDER GAP (in the context of media consumption) the difference in time spent consuming different types of media between the sexes; for example, girls tend to consume more audio and social media, while boys tend to consume more video games (H. Trefun)
  • GIGABYTE - a unit to measure byte allocation. Generally this is used for memory or how much free space one computer has. It is 1000 megabytes and can also be used for RAM (Random Access Memory). (R. Stewart)

  • Hacker A skillful computer user. Often refreanced with a computer user who controlls computers without authrozation. (C. Woodard)
  • HASHTAG word or phrase that is prefixed by a "hashtag" sign that is used in social media to place an importance on a word or phrase. People use this to create discussions about topics and also people can research a topic under the "hashtag" (F. Moore)
  • HYPERTEXT text that contains links to other sources of information (K. Robertson)
  • HTML HyperText Markup Language; the language used for creating web pages or documents on the internet (L. Reeser)
  • HIT Human Intelligence Task, a cognitive task that could only be done by a human and not a computer (such as labeling images) (I. Albers)

  • ICLOUD iCloud is an Apple email, storage and data synchronization subscription service that provides 5GB of storage for free. (K. Davis)
  • IMPORT to import a file or data is to transfer that file from another application into the format you are working in (K. Davis).
  • ICT Information and Communications Technologies - a term used to describe how information is shared (communicated) to various parties through the use of digital mediums. For example, someone making a post to Facebook is considered ICT. (C. Swisher)
  • IMOVIE is a program that allows one to import your home movies from a camcorder, a digital camera, or ipad where you can organize them and browse through them very easily. You can also edit them or just leave as is and it has cover photos to find easily.(F. Moore)

  • LMS (Learning Management System) - Software programs like Angel and Blackboard that allow for the deliver of online course material and the tracking of student progress. (C. Swisher)

  3. MMORPG A Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game such World of Warcraft or Star Wars: The Old Republic
  4. MILLENNIALS The current teen and twenty-something generation that is infused with technology.

  • QUEST TO LEARN A game based school in New York City for upper grades. Their whole day is designed to learn through game activities and to learn to do these engaging things with digital tools. They are starting to branch out to other cities as well. (S.Fenton)
  • QUIZLET online flashcards; can create own or use pre-made lists of vocabulary words (C.Murphy)
  • QWIKI an app that allows you to utilize your own pictures, movies, and music to create short movies. (K.Barton)

  • RSS - (Really Simple Syndication) A method for subscribers to save time by recieving updates when their favorite websites or blogs post new information. (C. Swisher)
